Personal pronouns in Turkish

When you're having a conversation with a Turk, eventually, but certainly, there will be point in the conversation where she uses she or her to Adam, and he or him to refer to Eve. There is a simple reason for that: In Turkish, the singular third person pronoun is the same whether you're talking about your mother, your boyfriend, or your dog. It's a simple word: O.

Not that you're actually going to see or hear these words very often in daily Turkish. Most of the time, they just change the ending of the verb and that's it. For example, here's someone asking her friend if she's brought a pencil:

Kalem getirdin mi?

(Did you bring a pencil?)

Evet, getirdim.

(Yes, I did.)
